10月15日 I see dead people....Today some friends and I went to see "Bodies...The Exhibition" in downtown Seattle.
It was kind of surreal walking into a room full of preserved cadavers, but it was pretty well done. They gave everyone kind of a cell phone/remote control looking thing......Most of the displays had numbers on them, and you could punch the numbers into the remote and then put it to your ear to hear a short explanation of what you were looking at.
It was laid out in different rooms with different themes like skeleton, muscles, circulatory, nervous system, etc. They were preserved by replacing all the fluids with a liquid silicone rubber for the most part......some of the circulatory system displays looked like they were in lucite boxes and suspended in some kind of clear solution. They used bright red and blue dye to differentiate the arteries and veins.
Its a little expensive at $30, but educational and something you don't see everyday. 9月23日 Woo its here!So the shippers didn't seem to be on top of the ball. According their website tracking, the bike arrived in Seattle on Monday the 18th. It wasn't scheduled to be delivered until 20-21 so I just figured they had a lot of other bikes that were in line to be delivered before mine or something. Finally on the afternoon of the 21st I got a call saying they could deliver it the next day....I was a bit miffed but oh well I can live with it because it was raining that day anyway.
So all day the 22nd I'm waiting at work for the call saying they are about to deliver and I need to go home to receive it.....I get a call around 3 and they say that the driver called in SICK. GRRRR. She tells me that my options are drive up to Everett and get it myself or wait until Monday or Tuesday. The forecast for the weekend is sun and 75 degrees...perfect riding weather, so I don't want so sit around watching TV. I recruit my friend Rob to give me a ride this morning (with bribes of lunch and my great company).
The results:
For any bike guys who care: Its a 2003 Aprilia SL-1000R Performance bits: 9月13日 New toySo I bought a new motorcycle. The one I wanted is fairly rare in this area and if you can find one, they are overpriced. After doing my research I decided to pull the trigger and have it shipped over. It got picked up today in maryland and is scheduled to be delivered around the 21st. I can track the movement through the shipper's website, and made this map showing where the bike is currently:
X marks the spot! Keep checking everyday! I know you all care deeply!
Big post with lots of pics will come after I get it. 7月28日 Don't let your kitty get kidney stones.http://home.comcast.net/~ssteffy/spendycat.jpg So on Wednesday morning I noticed Boxer acting a bit strange. He would kind of stand with his legs totally extended and not move at all. He wasn't acting like he was in pain so I didn't think much of it. I had to come home to get a package that I didn't want sitting on the doorstep and when I checked on him, he was in some visible pain sitting on the bathroom floor and there were some pink dribble marks on the floor so I knew a trip to the vet was in order. When I picked him up, he felt like he was under pressure so my first thought was kidney stone. When I opened the cat carrier he climbed right in....he knew he needed a vet visit too. Dropped him off and they immediately knew he was obstructed. Catheter time :P Anyway they flushed him out and put him on an IV for a couple days. Now he is on muscle relaxers and kitty morphine. You can tell by looking at him: http://home.comcast.net/~ssteffy/boxer54.jpg Right now he's camped out on my legs sleeping. Vet says he should be good as new in a few days. 5月22日 Learning is fun sometimesSo last Wednesday I took a floating holiday and took my bike to the racetrack for performance riding school. The bike technical inspections were at 7am, and the track was about an hour from my house, so I had to get up at about 5:30 in the damn morning. bleh.
The school structure is here: http://2-fast.org/school-structure.html and its the most fun I've had in years. I'm pretty much a speed hound, but its usually in things that won't kill me like go karts and such. I've been riding less than a year, so I'm still not feeling totally at home on a bike yet, but I'm pretty confident in my reaction time and my ability to keep track of everything going on around me, so I've been able to get out of some situations that would have spooked other people. I even bought some leather pants (leather pants aren't gay if you are buying them for motorcycle racing).
Here's me trying to look cool. (Ignore the double chin...its not cool) http://home.comcast.net/~ssteffy/gonnadie.jpg
I learned a lot of stuff about how to take corners, how my form was wrong when leaning off the bike, and just how much you can push these bikes before they reach their limits. I did get up to about 130-135mph on the straightaway, even on my 15 year old bike, but the bigger ones get up to 180 in no time. The good thing about bikes is that even though the sense of speed is a lot stronger, the bike becomes more stable the faster you go because of the gyroscopic effect of the spinning wheels.
There was a track photographer, but there wasn't a lot of variety in the pictures taken....there wasn't even anything showing me putting a knee down. :P
here's what he got of me: http://keepsakephotoonline.exposuremanager.com/g/56 The top row 2nd pic isn't me though, he just mixed up the numbers.
I also took some video from my helmet mounted camera, here's a sped up one lap run from my point of view: http://home.comcast.net/~ssteffy/2-fast.wmv
Anyway it was a great day, and I can't wait to go back, but I don't think I can afford to do it more than a couple times a year.
3月22日 Why do people watch this crap?"Deal or no deal" is the worst show ever conceived. Game shows that take no skill whatsoever? Come on even wheel of fortune requires a decent grasp of the language for people to be good at it. 3月12日 Mission accomplisheddirty garage:
